Color
Our color system is comprised of a primary and secondary palette. The primary colors represent
elements in filmmaking and the iconic Oscar statue. The expansive secondary palette adds
expression and flexibility.
Primary Palette
Our primary palette is inspired by light, the red carpet and the
Oscar statue itself. Below are the approved color values for each
color in the palette. Always use the correct color mode and ink
formulation for the appropriate application type, to ensure color
consistency across all mediums.

Secondary Palette
The Academy’s secondary palette consists of bright colors
that are meant to be used as accents and highlights in
addition to the gold, white and black. They add a fresh
tone to the classic primary colors.
Typography Color
Our primary color palette can be applied to our typography to
ensure brand consistency across all formats and applications.
Logo Color
Our logo should always appear in gold if possible to represent the
iconic Oscar statue. The logo can also appear in black and white
if gold is not available.
Primary Color Misuse
These are examples of what to avoid when applying primary
brand colors to your executions.
Content-Based Color
Our content-based palette permits flexibility and centers imagery
from what inspires us all: the movies themselves. There are two
methods for creating secondary content specific color: analogous
and/or complementary color palettes.
Content-Based Color: Analogous
Analogous colors sit adjacent to one another on the color wheel,
such as yellow and orange. When used correctly, analogous color
combinations create harmonic expressions that easily translate to
even gradients of color.
Step 1: Select a color from an image and
copy the hex code of the selected color.
Step 2: Paste your hex code into the
Academy Color Builder and select
analogous color. The Academy Color
Builder can be found at the bottom of
this section.
Step 3: Copy the hex codes or
download the gradient palette from
the Academy Color Builder to use in
your brand application.
Content-Based Color: Split Complementary
A split-complementary color scheme uses two colors across
the color wheel, with those two colors lying on either side of
the complementary color. This color scheme creates dynamic
combinations when using flat colors.
Step 2: Paste your hex code into the
Academy Color Builder and select split
complimentary color. The Academy Color
Tool can be found at the bottom of this section.
Academy Color Builder
This color palette builder can help create perfect analogous or split
complimentary color combinations. First, select if you would like
analogous or split complimentary. Then, find the hex color value
you're building the color scheme from and paste it into the hex value
dialog box.
Additional Color Misuse
Please avoid the following when applying the secondary and content-based color palettes.
